Steve filed his challenge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, joined by three other vaping businesses—two from Michigan and one from North Dakota. Additionally, four small vaping businesses in Minnesota, also represented by PLF, filed a federal challenge today in that state. They are joined by the nonprofit Tobacco Harm Reduction 4 Life. Finally, Joosie Vapes, a vape shop in Mesquite, Texas, filed a challenge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, also represented by PLF.

Experts write to the FDA about regulating e-liquid flavours

Last month, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) to seek comments pertaining to e-liquid flavours’ regulations. In response to this, five public health experts sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb urging him to look at the bigger picture.

Last month, the FDA together with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched this consultation in order to gather feedback on how to best regulate flavours. Echoing what Gottlieb said days earlier, the agency said it aimed to limit flavours’ appeal to adolescents, whilst considering the role that they are having in helping adult smokers take the leap from smoking to vaping.

New UK E-cigarette regulations for consumer products

Overview

The Tobacco Products Directive 2014/14/EU (TPD) introduced new rules for nicotine-containing electronic cigarettes and refill containers (Article 20) from May 2016. MHRA is the competent authority for the notification scheme for e-cigarettes and refill containers in the UK and is responsible for implementing the majority of provisions under Article 20.

The TPD introduced new rules which ensure:

  • minimum standards for the safety and quality of all e-cigarettes and refill containers (otherwise known as e-liquids)

Older smokers who can’t quit turn to vaping

Jeannie Cox currently enjoys a flavor called Coffee & Cream when she vapes. She’s also fond of White Lotus, which tastes “kind of fruity.”

She buys those nicotine-containing liquids, along with her other e-cigarette supplies, at Mountain Oak Vapors in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she lives. A retired secretary in her 70s, she’s often the oldest customer in the shop.
