On the verge of being snuffed out by Obama administration regulators, Florida’s traditional and culturally distinct premium cigar industry has a chance at new life.

Late last week, U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., the incoming chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, met with President-elect Donald Trump and submitted a list of 232 items that could be repealed immediately after Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration.

Vaping delivers the sensation of smoking with 95 percent less harm to the human body, according to Great Britain’s Royal College of Physicians.  A study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control shows upwards of 9 million vapers in the U.S. alone. And about 20,000 taxpaying businesses, employing over 100,000 people, have opened to serve the vaping public.

The bad news: The federal Food and Drug Administration, citing the 2009 Tobacco Control Act, has opted to classify vaping chemicals as a “tobacco product” — even though they contain no traditional tobacco. It’s a one-size-fits-all approach to regulation that poorly serves the public.

Murthy acknowledged the report doesn’t aim to resolve questions of whether e-cigs and vaporizers offer adult smokers a reduced-risk alternative to traditional cigarettes, or should be regulated similarly to traditional cigarettes.

Senator warns FDA that GOP will target e-cig regulations

From: Winston-Salem Journal

The reality of a Trump administration focused on rolling back regulations has led a U.S. senator to jump-start efforts to curtail the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s rollout of new rules on innovative tobacco products.

U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who won re-election Nov. 8, sent a letter Tuesday to FDA Commissioner Robert Califf that warns him that a Republican-controlled Congress and White House will target some, if not all, of the regulations that went into effect Aug. 8 on electronic cigarettes and vaporizers.
