Windsor RCMP seize illegal smokes

From: The Windsor Star

A Windsor man has been arrested and charged under the Excise Act for allegedly distributing and selling contraband cigarettes.

Windsor RCMP have seized 1,080 cartons of cigarettes as a result of the investigation, which was announced Wednesday. They have also seized two minivans and $1,500 in cash.

“The contraband tobacco trade supports the growth of an underground economy that generates profits for organized crime”, said Windsor RCMP Insp. Serge Cote, the detachment commander. “People need to be aware that when they purchase contraband tobacco, they are funding a criminal activity.”

Charged is Hasan Ali Muhamad, 31, of Windsor.

Anyone with any information about the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products is asked to call the RCMP at 1-800-387-0020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
