By standardising all tobacco packaging to an indistinguishable design, it is likely that smokers are more inclined to simply purchase the cheaper option instead of quitting altogether. This also opens the floodgates to contraband and counterfeit tobacco products entering the market, given that it would be harder to identify such illegal goods.

The result is merely replacing one problem with another, instead of actually achieving the objective of reducing smoking rates.
