Tarik Biji guilty of second-degree murder in death of inmate at Montreal Detention Centre

The jury found Tarik Biji guilty of second-degree murder in the death of fellow inmate Michel Barrette, a he‎roin addict who had just smuggled tobacco into the detention centre days before he was beaten to death on June 21, 2016.

Barrette died a couple of hours after he was beaten for 23 minutes inside Biji’s cell. Witnesses who testified during the trial said Biji wanted Barrette to hand over the tobacco he had smuggled inside the detention centre also known as the Bordeaux Jail.
