Halifax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dennis Witt has penned a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on behalf of the board asking the FDA to reconsider the negative impact such a move would have on tobacco producers.

“Effectively banning the products without giving smokers more alternative, less harmful tobacco products would create new demand for black market products and result in increased trafficking, crime and other illegal activity,” Witt said.
