Police Make Several Arrests In Cigarette-Smuggling Ring

Lexington Police investigators, in conjunction with the U.S. Secret Service and Nicholasville Police, have arrested several suspects connected to a fraud ring.

Police say they arrested several suspects at the Econo Lodge on Athens Boonsboro Road Tuesday. Police say they seized cash and more than 68,000 fraudulently acquired cigarettes – a value of more than $16,000.

These arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation involving fraudulent credit card purchases. According to preliminary information, the suspects, from Atlanta, Georgia, used cloned credit cards to purchase the cigarettes.

The suspects related to this investigation will face a variety of charges including: Theft by Deception, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd and Criminal Syndicate charges. These suspects are:

1. Vante Shepherd 2. Keon Johnson 3. Eric Muhammad 4. Dejuan David 5. Omar J. Fandino 6. Lateef Izuagbe 7. Deangelo Canter 8. Benson Brune 9. Justin Williams
