SOFIA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) — Bulgarian customs have seized 0.5 million counterfeit cigarette packs at Danube Bridge checkpoint near Vidin at the border with Romania, officials said on Monday.
Inspectors have found the packs in a Bulgaria-registered cargo van Peugeot Boxer, leaving the country towards Latvia and driven by a Bulgarian citizen, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a press release.
Because of its location, Bulgaria is a favorite destination for traffickers, with nearly 500 kg of drugs, 225 tons of tobacco and 44 million cigarettes seized by NCA in 2013.
