It’s been almost a year since federal agents raided Cherokee Tobacco offices and warehouses in Riverdale, but no charges have been filed in the investigation of former Cherokee Tobacco President Kathy Farley, Firebird Manufacturing and Cherokee Tobacco.

Based on information obtained in an investigation leading up to that raid, IRS Special Agent Robert E. Martens stated in his application for the search warrant “there is probable cause to believe Farley, former president of Firebird Manufacturing LLC and Cherokee Tobacco Company LLC, owned by CB Holdings LLC, is involved in a conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate the Contraband Cigarette Trafficking Act.”

The 24-page filing submitted Aug. 21, 2013 in U. S. District Court, Western District of Virginia in Roanoke the tax liability associated with the underpayment of taxes from November 2011 through July 2013 amounts to approximately $10.8 million.
