Malaysian Custom seizes 3.1mil sticks of contraband cigarettes

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Customs Department seized 3.1 million sticks of contraband cigarette in cartons loaded inside a lorry at Felda Tenggaroh in Mersing on Monday morning.

During the 1.45am operation, a Customs enforcement team stopped the lorry which was heading to Kota Tinggi and found 15,500 cartons of cigarettes worth about RM250,000.

The lorry driver in his 40’s was detained for investigation.

Johor Customs Department director Datuk Ramli Johari said the contraband cigarettes bearing the label Canyon were believed to be smuggled in to the state from a neighbouring country.
