‘Retailers Against Smuggling’ made the claim today after officials seized 410,000 cigarettes with a retail value of €175,000 at Dublin port.

Spokesman Benny Gilsenan said the value of the cigarettes
seized is equal to seven jobs in the retail sector.

The ‘Regal’ brand cigarettes were seized when officers detained a Northern Ireland registered commercial vehicle.

It brings the total number of cigarettes seized to date this year to approximately 77.5m, with a potential retail value of €32.5m.
