Liberals just huffing and puffing over illegal smokes

TORONTO – Finance Minister Charles Sousa declared in his recent fall economic update that his government would help close a $500-million shortfall in revenue by cracking down on contraband tobacco.

This is the government that banned flavoured cigarillos in 2011 and recently announced it’s banning menthol cigarettes.

So peppermint flavoured cigarettes are a no-no — but smoke shacks selling cheap cigarettes in bundles don’t get busted.

Convenience stores jump through hoops to ensure they don’t sell cigarettes to minors.

Yet smoke shacks target school kids — and get away with it.
