SPRINGFIELD – The last of three defendants pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in connection with a $43 million tobacco wholesale tax fraud scheme.
Hasmit Kharbanda, 33, the manager of a tobacco wholesale warehouse in Danbury, Conn., pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiracy and three counts of contraband smokeless tobacco trafficking. He faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
