Study of butts finds contraband cigarette use high in the region [Ontario]

WATERLOO REGION – Illegal tobacco use remains high throughout the region, ranking fourth in the province, a study of local butts has found.

“What remains troubling for retailers is the continued trend of contraband use in high schools and hospitals across the province, which indicates an unrestricted access to illegal tobacco by minors,” said Dave Bryans, OCSA’s chief executive officer, in a news release. “We were disappointed to see the rate climb by almost three per cent in the region compared to the 2014 contraband study.”
