What most concerns Barrera is some of that awareness appears to be incorrect. The information doesn’t appear to acknowledge that Cornwall Island is only one part of Akwesasne; other portions are located in the United States and in Quebec. It also refers to “counterfeit” cigarettes. According to Barrera most tobacco trafficking in Akwesasne deals with local un-taxed brands, not counterfeits of other brands. “If they get this stuff wrong, is their whole analysis of the community corrupted?” Barrera asked.
