Six Nations man wanted in Canada’s largest tobacco-smuggling bust

Quebec provincial police confiscated 52,800 kilograms of tobacco.

The Ohsweken man, wanted on fraud-related charges, is allegedly one of 21 main players of a highly structured criminal organization with links to biker gangs and organized crime that extended to the United States, South America and Europe.

Police say 2 million kilograms of tobacco was bought in North Carolina and illegally imported in trucks at the Lacolle, Lansdowne and Fort Erie border crossings between August 2014 and March 2016. It was sold at big profit margins to processing plants — mostly on reserves — for sale on Six Nations and Kahnawake in the Montreal area.
