Germany used to classify the production of counterfeit goods as a minority offense, but authorities now want the public to know that illegal trade can end up financing terrorism.

German authorities are clamping down on counterfeit goods, and running public information campaigns to inform consumers that the money from these sales probably funds terrorist organizations.

This week, customs authorities in Neuss, across the Rhine River from Düsseldorf, will be making a public show of destroying 10.5 million smuggled cigarettes.
