CORNWALL, ON, Oct. 14, 2016 /CNW/ – On October 6th, 2016, during a day-time operation, the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) observed a suspicious vessel traveling eastbound on the St. Lawrence River. Moments later, the vessel landed at Pointe Trépanier, Quebec, where its operator, Arrow James SIMON (age 24) from Akwesasne, Ontario, was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Two other males, Terence Michael EVANS (age 30) from Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec and David Alain TREGER (age 28), from Mississauga, Ontario were arrested at the scene.
All three males were charged with Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the provisions of the Excise Act. TREGER was also charged with Fail to comply for his previous court conditions. He rendered a guilty plea on Wednesday October 12th and was sentenced to 49 days intermittent and 1 year probation. SIMON and EVANS remain in custody pending the outcome of their bail hearings, which will be held in Valleyfield Court, Quebec on October 17, 2016.
Investigators seized 178.7 kilograms of contraband fine cut tobacco, 1000 cartons of cigarettes, a duck-boat style vessel and a van.
