Governments have been urged to adopt laws ensuring safer and better use of tobacco, rather than prohibiting it, as some have urged.

“Prohibition of tobacco products, as is being advocated in some quarters, is not the best solution as this will just result in contraband tobacco products, which are not safe, flooding the market. This was experienced during Prohibition in the US and is being seen in some countries where tobacco products are being smuggled through borders, like in Canada,” he said.
