More than 325,000 illegal cigarettes seized

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Justice and Public Safety, in partnership with the RCMP, police agencies in Saint John and Kennebecasis Valley and the Canada Border Services Agency, seized 327,121 illegal cigarettes in Saint John on Nov. 16.

Revenue from the sale of illegal tobacco is often funneled into organized crime and can pose a greater risk to increased smoking rates for youth. Manufacturers of illegal tobacco products are not subject to standards or inspections.
