Cigarettes are the most commonly seized counterfeit item in the EU. It is not unusual for officials to discover fake versions of everyday goods, such as food and beverages, toiletries, medicines, toys and household electrical goods — where counterfeits could pose serious health and safety risks. These accounted for nearly 26 per cent of seizures.
