Police say Khan and two other local store owners who placed similar orders knew their goods would not arrive by truck — but rather stolen from other stores within walking distance and stuffed into a neighborhood junkie’s backpack.

Police and state agents, who were focused on untaxed cigarettes and labor violations, raided the stores on March 10 and 13. Among items seized were 125 bags of seafood, including frozen crab legs and cooked shrimp that had been stolen from local supermarkets, police said. Khan and the other convenience store owners and several others were arrested at Town Convenience and Boardwalk Variety, adjacent stores at 129 and 133 Spruce St., and at Desi Grocery, 824 Main St.
