Connecticut cracks $13M contraband tobacco ring case

A five-month state investigation has led to the arrest of 10 people and seizure of more than $50,000 in cash and $234,000 in contraband tobacco from a Bridgeport tobacco wholesaler, state authorities say.

Over many months, the distribution ring sold in excess of $13 million in untaxed tobacco to approximately 450 retail locations in Connecticut, making this the largest state bust ever of its kind, Sullivan said. About $250,000 in contraband was sold monthly, he said.
