Virginia man arrested for smuggling 500,000 contraband cigarettes into Brooklyn

ALBANY — State tax officials on Monday announced the arrest of a Virginia man who smuggled more than 500,000 contraband cigarettes into Brooklyn.
Derar Hajjat, 30, of Chincoteague, Va., was charged with three tax-related felonies after authorities seized more than 2,701 cartons of cigarettes from his personal car.
