The Brazilian Federal Police seized seven boats in the Parana River loaded with 125 thousand cigarette packs being smuggled from Paraguay. Discovered near the town of Navirai in Mato Grosso do Sul, the material had entered the country along the border with the Paraguayan municipality of Salto del Guairá and was to be delivered in the state of Parana.

During the operation, a 21-year-old Paraguayan youth was arrested. He told the police that he had been hired to help the helmsman of one of the boats to take the cargo from Salto Del Guaira to Porto Novo, Parana. He was to get $1.00 for each pack of cigarettes.
