More than 120 detainees in Alicante and another 21 provinces for tobacco smuggling The Guardia Civil accuses them of distributing illegal merchandise worth 14 million euros.
The Guardia Civil has arrested 124 people in 22 provinces, six of them in the province of Alicante, for a continuing offense of tobacco smuggling in one of the most important operations developed in Europe. It is the second phase of the operation “Pacote”, that was exploited initially last November with the arrest of six members of the same family dedicated to the cultivation and tobacco production in the province of Caceres, who allegedly introduced large batches of their production and third parties in the illicit market of Spain and Portugal. On that occasion 250,000 kilograms were intervened.
