Cigarettes seized from smugglers at Port of Harwich
Border Force officers have foiled a plot to smuggle nearly three million cigarettes into the UK at the Port of Harwich.
The 2.9m cigarettes had been shipped from the Hook of Holland inside a trailer containing large panes of sheet glass.
They had been hidden inside cut-out sections of the glass, but an anomaly was spotted on Sunday when officers x-rayed the trailer
If unspotted the import could have cost the Treasury approximately £675,000 in unpaid duty.
