Undercover Operation Yields 12 Arrests In Durham

DURHAM, N.C. –Investigators arrested 12 people in Durham as part of an operation targeting organized retail theft.

The undercover operation carried out by Durham police investigators, Food Lion Loss Prevention and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement officers stemmed from complaints of various convenience stores selling items stolen from retail stores.

Among the items being sold were razors, beauty products, cigarettes and over-the-counter medicines.

Officers served search warrants at the following stores:

  • Star Carolina Food Mart – 204 North Hardee Street
  • Durham Mini Mart –  1933 Holloway Street
  • Tobacco Town II – 1000 North Miami Boulevard
  • Big Apple Mini Mart – 1505 Holloway Street
  • Los Primos – 1109 East Main Street
  • Creedmoor Mini Mart – 3122 Bruce Garner Road in Creedmoor

Officers confiscated seven guns, two vehicles, approximately $5,000 in stolen goods, approximately $61,000 in cash and several pieces of clothing with counterfeit trademarks. Five guns were removed from Los Primos on Main Street.

As a result of the investigation, Los Primos, Star Carolina Mini Mart and Big Apple forfeited their ABC permits.

The following individuals were arrested and face various charges:

  • Hisham Daher (Durham Mini Mart) was charged with three counts of organized retail theft.
  • Lynn Greenawalt (Durham Mini Mart) was charged with two counts of organized retail theft and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Mohamed Nasser Ali (Durham Mini Mart) was charged with one count organized retail theft and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Juan Salcedo (Los Primos) was charged with one count of organized retail theft and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Rafael De La Cruz (Los Primos) was charged with two counts of organized retail theft, one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise and one count of possession of counterfeit trademark items.
  • Crystal Abuamra (Durham Mini Mart) was charged with one count of organized retail theft.
  • Abdul Algeradi (Tobacco Town) was charged with one count of felony conspiracy.
  • Mohamed Mosleh (Star Carolina Food Mart and Big Apple Mini Mart) was charged with two felony counts of receiving stolen goods, two counts of felony conspiracy, three misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen goods, three counts of misdemeanor conspiracy and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Ali Mohamad Obad Alyakdani (Big Apple Mini Mart) was charged with one count of possession of alcohol for sale without an ABC permit and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Abdo Hafeed (Big Apple Mini Mart) was charged with one count of possession of alcohol for sale without an ABC permit and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Mohamed Hussein Mohamed (Star Carolina Mini Mart) was charged with one count of possession of alcohol for sale without an ABC permit and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.
  • Abdelhakeem Aljumai (Star Carolina Mini Mart) was charged with one count of possession of alcohol for sale without an ABC permit and one count of permitting unlawful activities on an ABC-licensed premise.

Further charges are pending.
