STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As the morning dog walkers passed by, about 50 investigators and deputies from the Sheriff’s office huddled together in the parking lot of Van Briesen Park in Fort Wadsworth last week.
They were mapping out their strategy for a large-scale sweep of tobacco sellers on Thursday, Oct. 29, on Staten Island. Over the course of the day, the sting led to two felony arrests and the confiscation of thousands of packs of untaxed cigarettes from 40 convenience stores.
