The U.K.’s power system faces an evolving threat from hackers as it becomes more dependent on computerized systems and data tools, according to a panel of lawmakers.
The government must work ever more closely with utilities and security agencies, and provide sufficient funding to stave off cyber attacks, the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee said in a report published Thursday.
“The risk of breaches to cyber security are real and will continue to evolve,” the panel said. “We are concerned about the threat in the medium term as the electricity system becomes increasingly reliant on fast communication, on data and dependent on automation.”
