Since 2011, media reports on cyber attacks affecting energy companies and the security concerns of critical infrastructures in the oil and gas sector have been on the rise.

The 2012 Saudi Aramco cyberattack would probably be the most notorious crimes of all. It took the Saudi Arabian oil major two weeks to recover from a virus that struck the firm’s internal corporate networks, causing to replace hard drives on 30,000 Windows machines.
