Federal CIO: Contractors fall short of protecting goverment data from cyberattack

The Office of Management and Budget is evaluating options to bolster cyber protections baked into federal contracts, thanks in part to a massive breach of government data that ultimately put one contractor out of business.

Already, as part of a broader review of federal cybersecurity programs, the OMB directed agencies to establish and initiate a process for identifying and reviewing relevant contracts to ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity and privacy laws, OMB guidance, and cybersecurity guidelines released by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
