With advanced persistent cyber threats continuing to pose a challenge, the Environmental Protection Agency needs to make some tough choices on where it can spend its limited security budget to make the most impact, according to a recent report by the agency’s watchdog.

Overall, the EPA faces a wide range of computer security issues, including risk management planning, implementation of security tools, incident response capability and follow-up actions to correct problems, the inspector general said in a May 28 report (pdf) that looked at broad management challenges across the agency.
