Interactive National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework

About the Workforce Framework

The National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework provides a blueprint to categorize, organize, and describe cybersecurity work into Specialty Areas, tasks, and knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). The Workforce Framework provides a common language to speak about cyber roles and jobs and helps define professional requirements in cybersecurity.

The Workforce Framework organizes cybersecurity into seven high-level Categories, each comprised of several Specialty Areas. Click on a Specialty Area to reveal its standard tasks and the KSAs needed to successfully complete those tasks. Select Workforce Framework elements from the tabs above or browse by clicking on the Category images at the right.

The Training Catalog and the Workforce Framework

Training is a foundational component for every workforce plan. Courses on the Training Catalog are mapped to Specialty Areas. This allows cyber professionals, and those entering the cybersecurity profession, to quickly identify the courses they need to advance within their area or transfer their skills to another.

If you’re an academic institution or training vendor you may qualify to become an approved NICCS Training Provider. Learn how to map and submit your cybersecurity education or training courses.
