Insiders: Health care is ‘being held hostage to hackers’

“Hospitals and health systems are being held hostage to hackers,” warned one provider executive. “More than 100 million Americans have had their electronic medical data hacked in the past year compared with less than 10 million who have ever accessed their records.”

“We build the world’s largest walled gardens around our data, but we leave the gates wide open,” lamented another executive at a provider organization. “The end result is we’ve made it extremely hard to innovate in health IT and work in health delivery, but fairly simple to bring a provider organization to its proverbial knees.”
