Deconfliction: DHS Policy for Investigative Data and Event Deconfliction

From: The Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council (CICC) | Bureau of Justice Assistance

On October 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas signed the DHS policy for investigative data and event deconfliction and the use of related deconfliction systems in the course of certain law enforcement activity.  The policy (1) requires that DHS law enforcement components conduct investigative data and event deconfliction during the course of criminal investigations to more effectively coordinate investigative activity to ensure officer safety and (2) strongly encourages DHS law enforcement components to integrate, as appropriate, the use of event deconfliction for significant DHS law enforcement operations.  Through implementation of this policy, DHS will achieve more consistent and effective investigative deconfliction policy and practice.  This approach is also consistent with current U.S. Department of Justice policies for investigative data and event deconfliction.  For additional information on deconfliction, please visit the Nationwide Officer Safety Event Deconfliction Web site.
