Nationwide Real-Time Overdose Surveillance System Launches in January

From: US Department of Justice/Bureau of Justice Assistance

On January 17, 2017, the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), with support from the Office of National Drug Control Policy, will launch its real-time overdose mapping smartphone application known as ODMap.  ODMap will enable police, fire, and emergency medical service personnel to report known or suspected overdose events, and there is no cost to use the application.  ODMap sends geocoded event information to a secure server, where it is mapped and made available for view by all participating agencies.  Within 15 seconds after an overdose event is reported on the application, the event is mapped.  Users are able to sort events by date, time, and location to identify overdose spikes.  Through ODMap, public health and public safety agencies have teamed up to stem the increasing number of drug overdoses.  Sharing overdose information across agencies and disciplines is critical in the fight against drug abuse and addiction.

For more information about ODMap, public health and public safety agencies should contact Washington/Baltimore HIDTA. . . or call (301) 489-1700 to schedule a demonstration.
