REPORTS DELAYED, PART I — Rep. Bennie Thompson, the top Democrat on the Homeland Security panel, scolded DHS over missing a targeted release date for a department-wide cybersecurity strategy. In a letter to Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen obtained by MC, Thompson enumerated the various reasons why DHS has missed self-imposed deadlines, noting the department recently did so again: Nielsen told a Senate panel on April 26 she’d have it finished within two weeks. Congress ordered the report completed by March 2017. “A clear, detailed strategy that contemplates roles, responsibilities and program functions will empower DHS officials to use resources judiciously and deliberately,” Thompson wrote in a letter dated May 11. “At this critical time, DHS simply cannot afford to continue operating without a strategy.”
