Whether any substantial government action will come of it remains the perpetual question, as Washington policymakers often respond with alarm to breaches and calls for regulation — as some have again here — but rarely does much. Users in California filed suit, and the Irish Data Commission was among those pressing Facebook for answers. It’s not been a great stretch for Facebook on data privacy after this year’s Cambridge Analytica incident, but the company also won an encryption and wiretapping court victory against U.S. investigators that Reuters reported on late last week.
