NIST preparing new special publication on multi-organization computer security response

How multiple computer security incident response teams should coordinate to handle a cyber incident larger than any single organization will be the subject of a new National Institute of Standards and Technology special publication.

In a June 28 request for information, NIST says it’s soliciting input for what it should include in the new special publication, which will stand alone from an existing publication, SP 800-61, titled “Computer Security Incident Handling Guide” (.pdf).

Among the matters it seeks more information on is examples of alternative communication mechanisms to be used in cases of degraded communications and whether there are any international, sector-specific or de facto standards using to support incident handling and information sharing during an incident.
