New Justice Department CIO Will Boost Cybersecurity Systems

The Justice Department Thursday named as its new CIO Joseph F. Klimavicz, who will enhance the agency’s cybersecurity systems, among other duties, when he starts in late May.

Mr. Klimavicz joins the Justice Department from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the Department of Commerce, where he updated the agency’s cybersecurity systems and its high performance computing systems, according to a Justice Department statement. He also modernized its business and communications systems. Prior to joining the NOAA, he worked as deputy CIO of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

He “is well positioned” to lead the department’s efforts to protect the government’s data, said Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole in a statement.
