The Defense Department picked the Navy’s pocket to name its new CIO yesterday, but Pro Cyber’s David Perera reports that it may not be cause for celebration. “Being named chief information officer for the Pentagon ought to be a crowning moment for a life-long military technocrat like Terry Halvorsen. But in reality, the job might be a step down for Halvorsen, who’s leaving his position as Navy CIO to become acting CIO at the Pentagon. After all, he’s moving from being an official imbued with the authority to shape the IT environment of the Navy, to head an office primarily dedicated to crafting policy — and that’s at a perceived nadir of its power.”
