AUSTRALIA’s critical infrastructure still lacks “regulation, compliance and conformance’’ despite heightened cyber security risks, an expert has warned.
The threat is greater now than when a disgruntled former contractor hacked into Maroochy Water Services in Queensland in 2000 and released untreated sewerage that made its way into waterways, according to cyber security expert Jill Slay.
“The problem is that it has become so much more intense since then and critical systems are everywhere,’’ he said.
