Advising ICANN On Revising Their Process for Acting On Proposed Significant Actions by TLD Registries
ICANN has asked their Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) to "initiate a Policy Development Process (PDP) designed to produce recommendations to the ICANN Board for a timely, transparent and predictable process prior to significant actions by TLD registries..." The goal of the PDP is "the creation of a policy concerning the essential characteristics of the process by which ICANN considers registry operator or sponsor requests for contract changes and approvals to allow changes in the operation of TLD registries." Based on the policy guidance developed by the GNSO, the President of ICANN will be in charge of developing the "detailed administrative process" for implementing the guidance. Because of the importance of both the policy guidance and the implementing administrative process to diverse internet stakeholders, ICANNFocus.org will be providing the corporation with our views and recommendations on these issues on an ongoing basis.
