Detailing ICANN's Duties
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), as amended, between ICANN and the Department of Commerce (DOC) detail specific duties and responsibilities that ICANN is required to undertake in performance of the agreement. The MOU also discusses a series of reciprocal responsibilities incumbent on the Department.

ICANN's duties under the MOU generally fall into three categories:

1. Ongoing operational responsibilities;

2. Contingent responsibilities, those which would occur following a triggering event; and

3. Plans, reports and other documents that need to be completed on either a one-time or a regular basis.

ICANNfocus has developed a list of all of ICANN's duties under the MOU.

One limitation to the MOU is that it does not specify that any mechanism for informing the public of progress made in implementing the agreement. ICANNfocus seeks information ICANN's performance and non-performance of their duties under the MOU and will update stakeholders on relevant developments.
