FDA Seeks Comment On Animal Cloning Risk Assessment

The federal Food and Drug Administration announced that its draft risk assessment (RA) on animal cloning is publicly available. The FDA requests public comment on the draft RA. This RA evaluates the health risks to animals involved in the process of cloning. It also evaluates the risks to humans from eating cloned animals or their progeny.

In the same Federal Register notice, the FDA announced the availability of, and requested public comment on, a proposed risk management plan for animal clones and their progeny.

In the same Federal Register notice, the FDA announced the availability of, and requested comment on, the Agency’s draft guidance for industry 179. This draft guidance describes FDA’s recommendations regarding use of edible products from animal clones and their progeny in human food or animal feed.

Comments on all these documents are due by April 3, 2007.
