FWS Extends Comment Period for USGS Polar Bear Reports

On October 5, 2007, the US Fish and Wildlife Service extended the public comment period on nine new reports by the US Geological Survey. The USGS reports provide additional data and modeling results on whether the polar bear is becoming extinct because of melting sea ice in the arctic. The USGS reports could be interpreted as concluding that the polar bear will become extinct no matter what regulatory steps are taken to protect them.

The new comment period ends October 22, 2007
