CERHR Requests Comment on Final Bisphenol A Expert Panel Report

On November 30, 2007, the Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction requested public comment on an expert panel report evaluating the reproductive and developmental toxicity of bisphenol A.

The Center is part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Bisphnol A is a chemical used in the production of epoxy resins, plastics and flame retardants. The Center chose it for evaluation for four reasons: (1) high production volume; (2) widespread human exposure; (3) evidence of reproductive toxicity in laboratory animal studies; and (4) public concern.

Following receipt of public comment on the Panel report, the Center will prepare the NTP-CERHR monograph on bisphenol A. The Monograph will include NTP-CERHR’s interpretation of the potential for bisphenol A to cause adverse reproductive and developmental effects in exposed humans.

Public comment is due to the Center by January 25, 2008.
