GAO Criticizes IRS' Information Security
On March 15, 2013, the U.S. Government Accounting Office published an investigative report on the Internal Revenue Service's information security. This report is entitled "IRS Has Improved Controls but Needs to Resolve Weaknesses." The GAO report concludes in part that IRS has "continued to make progress in addressing information security control weaknesses, improving its internal control over financial reporting….However, serious weaknesses remain that could affect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of financial and sensitive taxpayer data."
